About CameraTrails

Our Background

CameraTrails was formed in April 2009 by Simon Brown. We currently run three trails in London, and due to the success of these, we are looking to establish additional ones in London and beyond.

What is a CameraTrail?

A professional photographer leads a small group of students on a route through a city. At set points along the route, the photographer will teach the group a particular topic. After the topic has been explained, the group puts the principles into practice in a carefully chosen location, allowing them to practice in a hands-on way. The topics forming a progressive, cohesive short course and are supplemented by continual feedback and interaction with the tutor as the trail progresses.

Our Teaching Philosophy

We use the following principles to make sure that participants learn quickly in a fun and enjoyable way.

Inspiring locations and photographic subject matter

  • We teach photography in environments where photographic subject matter and teaching are carefully combined to inspire participants and illustrate what is being taught.

Tailored tuition

  • Courses are limited to five participants to ensure that everyone has sufficient interaction with the tutor.
  • Courses fit modern lifestyles i.e. they are short, and at convenient times and locations.
  • Participants receive durable handouts, along with a personalised guide to the basics of their particular camera. This allows teaching to progress at a lively pace and gives participants something to refer back to.

Hands on learning

  • We believe that learning photography is best done through plenty of practical exercises, combined with tailored feedback and structured learning paths.

Removing jargon

  • Many beginners are held back by industry language. Cutting through this allows participants to learn quickly.
